This route takes you from dybbølsbro s-train station to the city centre along the harbour. We pass by bicycle infrastructure to connect the two sides of the harbour and swimming possibilities in the harbour. So bring your swimsuit if the weather permits.
The first thing you see when crossing the bridge over the railroad is the new IKEA building with the new regional bus station in front scheduled to open in 2024.
The BIG architecture group is behind the cactus towers and is also a new addition to the area having opened in 2024 along with IKEA. There is a plan that one day having a green area connecting all the way from the cactus towers to the SEB bank building on the corner of Bernstorffsgade and Kalvebod brygge. Today there is one building missing between ikea and cabinn hotel to complete the path.
Here is an example of the new bicycle infrastructure that has been built to create a connection between each side of the harbour. It is a heavily used stretch with thousands of bicycles crossing each day. In fact, you may notice that the bicycle road is wider than the car road next to them.
From the roof of Ikea you will get a good view towards Hovedbanegården, the post area district that now houses Danske Bank and also a view of the “bicycle snake” taking bicycles from the level of the bridge down to pier level in a more direct but curved way. It is Denmark after all so sometimes practicality may give way a bit for design. But what a lovely result and still very practical.
